A piece of heavy duty material made of synthetic fiber, hemp, rubber or similar pliant components that is used as a protective covering on a flooring surface in order to provide soil protection, static protection or to reduce fatigue.
Anti-fatigue mats are designed to cut down on fatigue of a person working in a standing position for prolonged periods of time. Most anti-fatigue matting is a combination of an ergonomic pattern and a cushioning underlay. The cushioning causes constant subconscious balance checks and slight movements that stimulate blood flow through the legs and lower extremities which results in better circulation and less fatigue. Materials used for anti-fatigue mats include vinyl, wood, PVC tubing, rubber, closed cell foam and polypropylene.
An antistatic floor mat or ground mat is one of a number of antistatic devices designed for the purpose of eliminating static electricity. Certain carbon or other type fibers used in these mats have static dissipative properties.
Custom mats can be manufactured to meet any specific needs you have whether they are related to reducing tracked in soil, providing anti-fatigue properties, providing branding for your facility or some other specialized need, i.e., anti-static or flame retardant, etc.
Entry mats should be capable of scraping debris off shoes and have the capability to hold that material. For an outside entrance – use soil-removal mats that have a coarse texture, are able to brush soil from shoes and hold large amounts of soil in their pile. Entry mats are often made of a tough, long-lasting material such as coir, palm fiber/stalks, nylon, rubber, cloth, or aluminum and other metals. Inside mats – use water absorbent mats to prevent tracked-in moisture from getting to the carpet. Mats that extend for 6 to 15 feet inside the entrance will trap eighty percent of soil and moisture from the first five or six steps. Using both types of mats at entrances helps prevent excessive soiling on carpet and abrasion of carpet fibers or scratching of hard surface floors. Types of mats: anti-fatigue, walk off, logo mats, anti-static, and industrial.
Industrial mats are often used in factories and production lines where staff has to stand for the majority of their working shifts. Work place environments can vary from dry areas to wet or extremely oily areas, plus specialized industries may need additional properties such as fire retardancy.
Mats can be designed with custom logos, a company name, a message or a sign of greeting used to welcome visitors to the facility. A variety of custom products which can display a theme, a word, name or logo of a manufacturer or merchant to identify its products distinctively from others of the same type. Logos can be either purely graphic (symbols/icons) or composed of the name of the organization (logo or word mark). Graphics and logos can be created using a variety of methods including medallions, etching, engraving, water jet cutting, or printing; and can be created in most any material type such as: glass, hard surface, carpet, rugs, mats, glass, mosaics, etc.
Walk Off Mats
Walk off mats are placed outside an entrance to reduce soil caused by foot traffic from exterior areas including walkways, stock rooms, commercial kitchens and garage areas. They should have a coarse texture that brushes soil and grease from shoes and will hold a large amount of collected soil. (See entry mats)
